COVID-19 Testing Q & A
What is COVID-19 testing?
COVID-19 testing is a screening procedure that determines if you currently have SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
If you don’t feel well, develop a fever, and experience a cough or body aches, you may be at risk. A COVID-19 test can provide confirmation, helping you protect your loved ones and the community around you.
Am I a candidate for COVID-19 testing?
Cemark Immediate Care can help you determine if you can benefit from a COVID-19 test. During your appointment, your provider conducts a physical exam, reviews your medical history, and asks about your symptoms.
If you work in a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility, it’s good to undergo a test. Cemark Immediate Care provides COVID-19 testing for patients of all ages and professions, including those with or without symptoms.
How do I schedule a COVID-19 test?
If you’re interested in COVID-19 testing, call Cemark Immediate Care as soon as possible. During your call, a staff member asks you several questions, including:
- Do you have a fever or a cough?
- Do you have shortness of breath?
- Have you been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19?
- Have you traveled recently?
After gathering this information, Cemark Immediate Care can make recommendations that align with your individual needs. If you aren’t experiencing symptoms, they can get you in within a day or two. If you are presenting symptoms, you may qualify for a same-day appointment.
How does COVID-19 testing work?
Cemark Immediate Care conducts COVID-19 testing on-site as an outpatient procedure. On the day of your appointment, your provider carefully inserts a nasopharyngeal swab up both of your nostrils. Your provider moves the swab around for about 15 seconds in either nostril. It doesn’t hurt, but you may experience some general discomfort.
After taking your nasal swab, your provider sends your sample to a laboratory. The laboratory tests the specimen from inside your nose and shares your results with Cemark Immediate Care.
How long does it take to receive the results of my COVID-19 test?
Most laboratories process COVID-19 tests within 24 hours. However, it usually takes several days to provide confirmation to Cemark Immediate Care.
While you wait, be patient, and follow your provider’s instructions. As soon as Cemark Immediate Care receives your test results, they’ll give you a call.
