When should I schedule a women’s health exam?

Teens

A teen’s first well-woman visit should occur between ages 13 and 15. The goal is to introduce them to women’s health and answer their questions. Teens don’t need a pelvic exam at their first visit unless they’re sexually active, want birth control, or have symptoms.

Adult Pap testing

All women should have their first Pap test when they turn 21. They should repeat the Pap test every three years. They should also undergo a human papillomavirus (HPV) test every five years.

Well-woman exam

Most women should schedule a yearly well-woman exam for preventive care.
